How Counselling and Psychotherapy can help
Choosing the right counsellor or psychotherapist
Studies show that the quality of the relationship between client and therapist is the most important factor in bringing about change.
When you have problems and or are finding it difficult to cope, it can help to talk to someone. Counselling and psychotherapy can provide a safe place to talk. The therapist can help to explore matters that cause difficulty or concern. Understanding these difficulties will help you develop choices and move forward.
Sometimes the mind can seem in conflict, resulting in not knowing which way to turn. Speaking to a therapist can make things clearer.
An initial consultation with a therapist will invite you to talk about what is troubling you. The therapist will consider with you the way your problems may be affecting you and then discuss ways forward. They will discuss with you whether counselling or psychotherapy is suitable for your needs and if so what kind of therapy will likely be helpful.
Mental Health awareness for men
According to figures from Mind (HCPJ, 2011), 2.7 million men in England currently have a mental health problem like depression, anxiety, stress or anger. Despite men and women experiencing mental health problems in more or less equal numbers, men are much less likely to be diagnosed and treated.
The need for 'male-friendly' health settings and therapeutic treatments which help and understand difficulties that men specifically face, may help make it easier for men to seek help. KCPS offers independent counselling for men.
